Abstract

Projectiles ; projectile fuses.-Consists mainly in making hand-grenades or bombs in the form of a wheel, so that they can be rolled along the ground as well as thrown. In the form shown in Fig. 3 the grenade is built up of two shallow cups 1 stamped plain or cast with grooves and secured together by a central stay 3 and nuts 4. The grenade is fired by a detonator 12 struck by either of two rods 11, depending on which side the grenade falls after its travel. The rods 11 are normally locked at safe by screwing mushroom-headed nuts 7 home, as shown in Fig, 3, and are armed by unscrewing the nuts 7 until they are stopped by pins 10 on the rods 11. In a modification, Fig. 4, the percussion fuse oomprises a double-sided striking-strip 1.5 and two matches 11<a>, and is armed by detaching caps 16, which are normally screwed or attached by a bayonet-joint to the central stay 13.
