Projectile fuses. -Relates to percussion fuses for bombs, of the kind in which a transverse safety-bolt or pellet is held until a vaned member has made a predetermined number of rotations. and is thereupon moved out of the path of the firing-pin by a spring. According to the invention, the spindle of the vane device or " propeller " is made solid with the firing-pin, so that, on impact, a blow is transmitted directly through the spindle to the firing-pin. In the construction shown, the vaned spindle c, which carries the fir- Ing-pin n, passes through a, sleeve f held by a spring and by a shearing-wire h. Screwed on the upper end of the spindle c is a bush j, which normally engages with a safety-bolt l lying in the path of the firing-pin n. As the bomb drops, the spindle c, rotated by its vanes, screws the bush j down so as to release the bolt l, which is then ejected by a spring m, the fuse thus becoming armed. To delay the arming, the boss of the propeller " may be screw-threaded upon the spindle, so as to travel up it before beginning to turn it. A removable safety-cover e is provided.
