Abstract

12,668. Wilson, J. P., and Jackson, J. F. Sept. 3. Reversing.-A rotary valve is formed in two relatively adjustable portions 6, 7, the portion 6 controlling the exhaust having a sleeve projection 8 to engage a recess in the portion 7 which controls the admission, and being driven from the portion 7 by dogs 10. For reversal, the ignition is advanced so as to occur during an in-stroke, whereupon the portion 7 is rotated backwards and relatively to the portion 6 until the dogs engage again, when the ports are correctly disposed for reverse running. The portion 6 has a through exhaust passage 13 and an axial passage 14 from the carburetter, while the portion 7 has inlet ports 12 leading from its interior to the cylinder.
