9765. Roberts, A. Feb. 1. Coke ovens; bracings.-In a bench of coke ovens, the endlong compression on the heating- walls can be regulated independently for each individual wall. As shown in connexion with a coke oven of the kind described in Specification 1570/15, endlong compression on the heating-walls is maintained by vertical beams 10, connected in pairs at their upper ends by adjustable tie-rods 11 and controlled at their lower ends by screw adjustments 13. The working platforms 18, 19 are carried by the beams 10, and their outer ends are free to move relatively to the supporting-piers 21.
