Retorts.-A closing-means for the base of a set of vertical retorts comprises a frame 4 having a number of door-openings and alined gas ducts 5 which connect the spaces 1 enclosed by the doors 3 and the charge-supports 2. The doors and supports may be united near the edges about which the doors turn, or they may be pivoted separately to the frame.
