Coke ovens.-In an horizontal flued coke oven, the air for combustion is supplied through two sets of passages J, L, one set leading from the bottom and admitting air to the flues of the lower half of the heating-wall, and the other leading from the top and supplying the flues in the upper half. By this arrangement, the cross-section of the airpassages, and consequently the thickness of the heating-wall, may be reduced. The vertical air passages and the ends of the heating-flues C may be correspondingly tapered as shown in sectional plan in Fig. 2.
