8008. Davis, R. H. Feb. 17. Air locks.-In an air lock through which tools or other articles may be passed from the interior of a submarine vessel to a person outside of it, or vice versa, the inner door b is controlled solely from the interior of the vessel, while the outer door e is controlled solely by a person outside the hull. The air lock is preferably portable, and is connected to the part c by a screwed or flanged joint, as shown. The chamber a is flooded, when required, by means of a pipe f, the water being removed by opening the valve g and admitting compressed air through the pipe h.
