Abstract
8257. Silley, J. H. April 18. Man-hole doors ; smoke-boxes.-A fastener for the circular doors of locomotives, smoke-boxes, airtight and water-tight compartments, tanks, boilers, and the like consists of an angle-iron ring e which exerts, when it is turned upon its axis f so as to bring wedges h secured to its side in engagement with catches d attached to the casing, a closing pressure around the whole edge of the door b. The ring may be turned by a cross-bar g, and a rack and pinion k may be used to ensure its tight contact on the casing. The invention is a modification of the fastening described in Specification No. 7029, A.D. 1903.
