Hatches.-A device for securing tarpaulin and like coverings on ships' hatches comprises a hinged screw-pressed bar 1, Fig. 1, hinged to plates 2 fixed to the coamings 3, and formed with openings 5 to fit over bosses 6. These bosses are preferably conoidal, Fig. 4, and are riveted to the coamings 3. The bosses are engaged by cap-headed screws 8, which when n screwed up bear against the bar 1 and force it against the tarpaulin 7. The cap heads of the screws 8 are preferably formed with cross-bars 10, Fig. 1, for the purpose of turning them ; but the heads may be made square and turned by a key. The bars 1 may be slightly stepped or bevelled to allow for the thickness of the tarpaulin.
