Hatchways.-In a hatchway guard, comprising a number of stanchions A having eyes D for carrying a rope, the lower end A<1> of each of the stanchions is shaped to engage the beading b<1> on the coamings B, and is clamped thereto by a plate G, one or more bolts H, and a nut or nuts I, which may be released by a tommy bar; the stanchions may be placed inside, and the plates G outside, the coamings.
