281. Lee, A. J. F. Jan. 7. Air locks.-To give access from the deck of a ship to a compartment under the action of compressed air, an air lock with drop-down doors 8, 9 is fitted. Only one of these doors can be opened at the same time, and winches 13, 13' are fitted to close them. Air valves 10, 10<1> and 12, 12<1> are fitted, and long rods 11, 11' permit the opening of the valves 10, 12 from below or above respectively.
