Plug couplings. combined with electric switches comprise a sliding locking-bar A located below a hole B in the casing and provided with a hole E. The bar is moved against the action of the spring pin F by an abutment G carried by the switch-handle shaft, which, in the open position of the switch, engages an adjustable screw K on the sliding bar and brings the holes B, E into register, so that the guide-pin J of a two-pin plug can be inserted in the holes. On closing the switch, the abutment G is withdrawn from the sliding bar, the hole in which under the action of the spring pin F engages with a groove J' in the guide-pin and locks the plug in position until the switch is again opened. The guide-pin and the hole B may be so shaped that the plug may be inserted in the correct position only, and the guide-pin may be used for an earthing-connexion, in which case the hole B may be bushed with a spring bush to ensure good contact with the pin.
