Abstract

Battery l a m p s. -A portable battery lamp for use especially in mines is provided with a switch supported by the cover and adapted to lock the cover on closing the circuit and to release it only after the circuit has been broken. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a switch R carried by a hinged cover C is adapted to be screwed into a hole in a terminal X, protected at Z with ebonite or other insulating-material. In a modification, shown in Fig. 2, a spring-pressed rod R has a pin working in a slot in a sleeve on the cover and a projection D to engage under one terminal. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to a lamp described in Specification 3185/10, the switch having a cam-surface Q for actuating a spring bolt K under an extension M on the case or through a hole in the extension; or there may be two cams, one for locking and the other for unlocking, or a rack- and - pinion connexion between the bolt and switch. According to the Provisional Specification, the switch may engage in a slot or a bayonet-sleeve on the battery terminal
