Abstract
915. Pearson, D. A. Jan. 20. [Cognate Application, 2896/15.] Two-stroke-cycle engines; crank chambers.- Two cylinders in approximately the same plane are inclined to one another at an angle less than 180 degrees and mounted upon a common crank case containing two compression chambers. the pistons being connected to cranks spaced apart by an angle which, with the angle between the cylinders, makes 180 degrees. As shown in Fig. 3, the crank case is built up of a central distance-piece c having a division wall g, and two end covers a, b. The crank-shaft is also built up. To enable a solid crank-shaft to he used, the crank case or its central portion c may be divided horizontally, the partition wall g having a tongue and groove to ensure a gastight joint. The halves of the bush o are stepped to prevent leakage between the compression chambers.
