Abstract

25,000. Hounsfield, L. H. Nov. 3. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-An engine using crank - case compression and having two adjacent cylinders, with a common combustion space, located in a plane at right-angles to the crank - shaft has its pistons secured to a common crank-pin by separate rods. The communicating passage 8 between the cylinders may be drilled and bored by a tool inserted through a sparking-plug orifice 9. According to a modified construction, the plane containing the axes of the cylinders may be inclined slightly to the axis of the crank-shaft. When using more than one engine unit, the crank cases may be separated by division plates constructed as described in Specification 23,065/13. Throttle valves such as 10 may be provided in the outlet pipes from the crank casings as described in Specification 25,001/13, [Class 7 (vi), Internal-combustion engines, Valves &c. for].
