Abstract

21,906. Benson & Co., W. A. S., and Ellwood, E. Nov. 3. Plug couplings.-A plug-and-socket coupling comprises a plug part having three pins, two of which a, b are of equal length and the third c shorter, and a reversible socket part having three sockets, two of which f, e are of equal length and the third shorter. The sockets f, e, d are adapted to engage with the plugs c, b, a respectively, and in this position, each socket makes contact with its respective plug. In the reversed position of the socket member, the sockets e, f engage the plugs b, a respectively, but the short socket d fails to make connexion with the short plug c. The coupling is adapted for use with electric heating-apparatus, and with the heating-coils g connected to the plugs and the sockets connected to the mains h as shown, the coils are connected in parallel in the first position of the socket member, and in series when the socket member is reversed. The plugs may be connected to the lamps of an electrolier &c. so that, by means of the reversible socket member suitably connected to the mains, some or all of the lamps may be connected in circuit.
