Abstract
13,794. Shaw, H. S., and Shaw, W. H. June 8. Guards and protectors, controlling.-In an opener, scutcher, or like preparing - machine, the usual sliding plate for operating the locking- device for the beater cover is adapted to control a pivoted locking- lever for the cage cover, whereby the machine cannot be started until the covers are closed, or the covers opened while the machine is in motion. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the cage cover or door is at the side of the cage. The sliding plate 1 controls the closing of the beater cover 2 as set out in Specification 22,786/13. A lever 4 is provided with a lug to engage the cage door 6 and, when the machine is in motion, it is locked by the end 1<1> of the plate 1 engaging therewith. When the machine is stopped and the sliding plate 1 moved, the lever 4 is freed and the door 6 may be opened. Upon return of the plate 1, the lever and door are restored to the closed position. When the cage door is horizontal, as shown in Fig. 3, a lever 9 having a pin-andslot connexion with the door 6 is coupled to a rod 11 having a cut-away part 11<1> engaging a slot in a bracket 5. The lever 4<a>, controlled by the end 1<1> of the plate 1, prevents the rod 11 from being lifted and consequently the door from being opened while the machine is in motion. When the machine is stopped and the plate 1 moved, the lever 4<a> can be turned to a vertical position and the door can be opened. The door has to be closed before the plate 1 can be returned to the locking position.
