Abstract

7581. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. March 25. Regulating delivery by by-passes. -Relates to pump valves with a relief opening which unloads the pump at starting and automatically closes as the pressure rises and comprises a spring - controlled valve with a relief port smaller than the delivery port, both being triangular. The valve casing 1 has an inlet 2, delivery 3, relief 4, and a small upper pressure port 11 which communicates with the delivery. The hollow plug valve 5 has an opening 6 which registers with the relief port 4 when the delivery 3 is closed. A spring 7 tends to keep the valve in the closed position, and is assisted by the pressure of the delivery water. The valve is guided in its vertical movement by a rod 13. The size of the relief opening is preferably adjustable, a valve or diaphragm being used for this purpose.
