Abstract
6985. Spencer, A. March 19. Combined buffer and draw gear.-A drawspring m and a preliminary buffing-spring o are arranged at opposite sides of an abutment plate a, and a final buffing-spring w of rubber is arranged in front of these. The springs m, o may be of rubber or steel. The plate a, which is rectangular, is disposed between stops consisting of angle-irons h fixed to the underframe, and is supported on a bar bolted to the underframe. The spring ic is disposed between plates t mounted on a sleeve r which is threaded on the buffing and draw rod f between the coupler head s and the compression plate p of the spring o. The outer plate t bears against the coupler head, and the inner plate t, towards the end of the buffing stroke, bears against the angle-irons h. The spring w preferably comprises rubber rings or frames mounted on a metal plate. Fig. 4 shows one form comprising an inner ring x and an outer frame x<1> of rubber, which may be perforated near the corners. Fig. 5 shows another form comprising two frames y of rubber. Fig. 6 shows a further modification comprising three concentric rings z and corner pieces z' of rubber.
