Abstract

4455. Balassa, F. Feb. 20. Turning-gear.-To start an internal-combustion engine, a charge is pumped into the cylinder and the fly-wheel is then turned by a handle b acting through gearing on the friction-wheel d, which is carried by a lever e and is made to bear on the flywheel by a lever f. This lever is supported on an arm k having a pin projecting into an horizontal slot in a bearing j, and a second pin carrying the lever f and the end of the lever e. The lever f has a pin passing through a circular slot in the lever e. When the lever f is lifted to the position shown the lever e carries the friction-wheel against the By-wheel. When ignition occurs a projection h on the engine cam shaft acts on a rod h<1> to move the arm k and disconnect the friction-wheel from the fly-wheels.
