Abstract

1710. Brooks, W. M. Jan. 22. Hasp fastenings; hook fastenings.-A fastening for tightening straps, or for securing trunks together or to the roofs or carrier grids of motor-cars, or for securing the lids of boxes, comprises a lever a connected at c to one part A and a link e connected at h to the other part B and pivoted eccentrically to the lever a at d. The two parts are drawn together by turning the lever a, the pivot d passing beyond the line through the fulcra c, h, and a recess e' in the link e engaging the fulcrum c. In the arrangement, Fig. 1, for connecting two trunks together, the link e is detachably connected to a stud h on the part B by means of a slotted plate g<1> on an adjustable arm g mounted in trunnions f, and the lever a is detachably connected to the stud c on the part A by means of a slot b. Alternatively, the link e may be provided with an inclined slot adapted to be put into engagement with the stud h, and the lever a may be permanently connected to the part A. In the modification, Figs. 7 and 9, the fastening is adapted to be locked in the closed position by means of a key. The link e is permanently pivoted at h to the body B of the box and the lever a is detachably connected by means of a slot b to the stud c carried by a lock casing j on the lid A. When the fastening has been closed a spring stud k engages the lever a, and a bolt m is then shot by turning a key to force a locking-stud n<1> into the slot b.
