Abstract
27,980. Brooks, B. Dec. 23. Fastenings, hasp and hook. Relates to a fastening for boxes, trunks, &c. particularly suitable for securing a trunk on a motor-car. In the form shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5, the motor-car luggagecarrier 1 is provided with two hooks 7 which form the bearings for the trunnions 6 of the lower part 4 of the fastener, which is screwed so as to render the length of the fastening-members adjustable. The part 4 is hinged at 3 to a part 2, which at its other end is hinged to a lever 10. The box or the like is fitted with a swivel-mounted link 11, through which the lever 10 is passed, and in which it is retained by shoulders 17. When the lever 10 is pressed down to the position shown in Fig. 3, the box is drawn tightly on to the carrier, and the link 11 is retained in the other end of the slot 15 by shoulders 14. To retain the lever 10 in this position, a catch 18 is provided, which passes through a slot 23 in the lever and engages it by a notch 19 through the influence of a spring 22. Instead of the hooks and trunnions, a ring may be secured on the car and a screwed hook carried by the part 4. In this form the device may be used for securing two boxes together.
