Abstract

Revolving-cylinder pumps; cam-actuated pumps; stroke, varying.-The cylinder 5 of a lubricating- pump, more particulary for motor-car engines, is rotated by a projection 12 on a worm-wheel 13 and has two holes 8, 9 which act alternately for the inlet and outlet of oil from the passages 3, 4. The piston 7 is reciprocated by a sleeve 14 which engages with a ball 18 working in a cam-groove 19 in the cylinder and is prevented from rotating by feathers 25 fixed to the casing 2. The down-stroke of the piston is effected by the engagement of a cap 22 carried by the sleeve with a shoulder on the piston, while the up-stroke is effected by the engagement of a second cap 15 with a nut 17 on the piston. The cap 15 is screwed to the sleeve 14 as shown, and the stroke of the pump is varied by adjustment of the position of the cap 15 so as to give a greater or smaller amount of lost motion.
