Abstract

Cam-actuated pumps; single-acting piston pumps; regulating delivery by opening suction and delivery valves; delivery pressure, regulating by varying clearance; valves and valve seats, arrangement of.-A variable-delivery pump comprises a piston i reciprocating in, and rotating with, a valve sleeve d which has a port d' registering alternately with suction e and delivery f. The piston i is reciprocated by a radial stud i' passing through a slot d<2> in an extension of the valve sleeve and engaging a stationary channel-cam h formed in a cap g which is screwed with a fine pitch in the pump casing b. An angular adjustment of this cap controls the pump delivery by varying the timing of the plunger movements relatively to the opening and closing of the suction and delivery ports. The sleeve is rotated by a worm a gearing with a worm-wheel c on the sleeve by a plug j<1> which can be screwed into or out of the chamber d<3>, thereby varying the delivery pressure.
