28,808. Allen, R. Dec. 13. Piston valves.-A piston valve is formed with separable ends clamping between them a cylindrical body portion and one or more collars on the rod. The piston shown consists of end plates c, c<1> clamping a collar g on the piston rod and spaced apart by a hollow body a. The parts are braced together by bolts d. The thrust may be taken by sleeves h, by shoulders on the bolts d, by spacing struts or by a spacing ring formed with projections bearing on the plates c, c<1>. The plate c is held in position during examination of the piston by a stud k. The piston rings may bear directly on the plates c, c<1> or on cast iron rings housed in recesses in the rings c, c<1>. In a modification, the piston has a long body a, and the rod f is formed with two collars g separated by a neck. The hearing-surfaces on the plates for the body n and the collars g may be in the same plane in order to facilitate machining. The body a may be formed to overlap the plates c in order to separate the packing-rings as much as possible.
