Abstract
584,635. Crankshafts. ALVIS, Ltd., CLARKE, G. T. SMITH-, and VARNEY, A. F. Jan. 13, 1945, No. 1085. [Class 80 (ii)] The two halves 12 of a divided crankpin clamp between them an inwardly projecting flange 13 of a big-end bearing-sleeve 14 and also enclose an inner sleeve 25 which has external splines engaging splines in the crankpin halves and in the bearing-sleeve flange 13. The inner sleeve 25 may be integral with, or a drive-fit in, one crankpin half. A central bolt 16 holds the crankpin halves together and has locking means 17, 18, 19. The bearing-sleeve 14 may be of alloy steel, with a coated white-metal surface, or may be wholly of phosphor-bronze, and is a push fit on the crankpin halves. Lubricant reaches the bearing surface through radial passages 26, 28, 29. Specification 482,572 is referred to.
