26,722. Magnat & Moser. Nov. 20, 1912, [Contention date]. Variable-speed belt gearing for motor-cycles &c. comprises an expanding pulley having a flange 3, Fig. 1, movable automatically by two or more centrifugal weighted arms 10. The flange 3 slides on the boss 2 of the other flange 1, which is fixed. The arms 10 are carried upon pivots 9, Fig. 2, upon a part 7 secured to the boss 2. Teeth 11<1> on the arms 10 mesh with a ring of teeth 6, which is loose on the boss 2 and is secured to a ring of helical cams 5'. As the cams 5' turn, they act on cams 5 upon the flange 3, and so move that flange laterally. In a modified arrangement, the centrifugal arms are pivoted on a part which moves and mesh with a fixed ring of teeth. In another arrangement, the centrifugal arms move in planes passing through the axis of the pulley, and the arms have cam surfaces acting directly on the boss of the movable flange.
