11,116. Fisher, W. T., and Radford, W. May 27. Variable-speed gearing. -In a variable-speed driving-gear for cycles &c., for the low or normal speed, the sun pinion d engages teeth c within the hub and the gear turns as a whole ; by operation of a wire i<1> and a rod i, a cross-pin i<2> is actuated to move the sun pinion, so that teeth k<1> are brought into engagement with stationary teeth k<2> and the hub is driven at high speed through the planet pinions e and the internal ring of teeth b. The cross-pin passes through slots in the spindle into a sleeve h and a collar h', the sun pinion being mounted between a flange h<1> and the collar. A spring j returns the parts to the normal position.
