Abstract

Variable-speed and reversing epicyclic gearing comprises a gear 4 secured to a driven-shaft 3 and meshing with planet-gears 7 carried by a casing 5 secured to a driving-shaft 2. The motion of the gears 7 is controlled in such a way as to impart a series of different speeds and reversal to the shaft 3. This control is effected by way of a sleeve 14, a worm-wheel 15, worms 16, and brake-drums as described in Specification 23,219/11. The gears 7 may be connected to a gear 13 upon the sleeve 14 either through gears 9, 10 surrounding the shaft 2, as in Fig. 1, or through gearing carried wholly by the casing 5.
