Abstract

25,386. Veulle, F. H. de. Nov. 25. Variable-speed and reversing gearing.-A variable sun-and-planet gear is combined with worm gearing so that a gearing-up device helps to transmit a reduction of gear to the driven shaft, with a direct drive and reversal. The sun-and-planet gear illustrated is of the class described in Specification No. 26,031, A.D. 1905, which comprises a planetcarrier B, Fig. 1, upon a driving-shaft A supporting pinions C, which mesh with a driven pinion D. The pinions C are actuated by one-way clutches F, Fig. 3, the centres G of which carry arms H trailing upon a non-rotary eccentric J of adjustable eccentricity, as before. The pinion D is connected by a shaft E to a toothed wheel K, which drives planetary gears L, M, Fig. 2, secured in pairs upon spindles L<2> also mounted in the carrier B. The gears M drive other gears M' on transverse spindles N, which also carry worms O. The worms 0 mesh with a central worm-wheel P upon the driven shaft P<2>, and when the eccentric J is adjusted to zero eccentricity, the entire gear rotates solid, producing the direct drive. When increasing eccentricity is given to the eccentric J, the pinion-centres G are oscillated with increasing amplitude, and the pinion D and worm gearing O, P are driven with increasing speed in such a way as, in effect, to substract from the speed of the shaft P<2>. The speed of the shaft P<2> may thus be reduced to zero. Further adjustment of the eccentric J causes reversed driving. Modified arrangements of worm gearing are described.
