Abstract

18,237. Ramsden, W. T. Aug. 11. Strainers.-In apparatus for extracting wort in which the mash is fed along straining surfaces, the grains are at intervals stirred and mixed with water. The mash is fed into a rotary perforated drum a, provided with a screw e or inclined stirring-blades attached to the central shaft b which is rotated oppositely to the drum. At intervals, the drum a is provided with enlargements f having blades g between which pass blades g<1> on the shaft b. The grains are mixed with water from perforations h in the shaft b. In a modification, a fixed semicylindrical trough has a central oscillating shaft carrying mixing-blades with opposed inclined surfaces by which the grains are fed along the drainage surfaces.
