Dash-pots.-Relates to turbines, particularly those provided with automatic end-thrust balancing-devices, and consists in braking axial vibrations of the shaft a by a device comprising a piston b connected to the shaft a by a flexible spindle c, and working in a cylinder d containing oil chambers e, e' which are provided with suction valves i, i<1> communicating with the lubricating-pump or other pressure supply. The outlets n, n<1> are closed by plugs m, m<1>, the only outlet for the oil sucked in by the piston b being through the clearances round the parts f, b, f<1>. Air or gas drawn in with the oil is forced out round the stems f, f'. Only one chamber e may be provided, the piston b being formed on the end of the shaft a which projects into the cylinder d. Other fluids may be substituted for oil.
