Abstract

16,468. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General. Electric Co.]. July 17. Boron. nitride is prepared by heating a mixture of a boron compound, and a cyanogen compound such as a cyanide or ferrocyanide to a temperature at which reaction occurs, and continuing the heating until products other than the nitride are volatilized. In an example, a mixture of boric anhydride, borax, or other boron compound and potassium or sodium cyanide is heated to a temperature of about 2000‹ C. After heating for a sufficient time, boron nitride alone remains.
