Boron.-Boron, mixed or not with boric acid is obtained by reducing a borate such as fused borax, or boric acid with aluminium, excess of the boric acid and usually an excess of the borate being employed. The powdered materials are mixed and heated to 700‹ C. when a reaction occurs causing the temperature to rise to 900‹ C. The product on cooling sets to a block, and is powdered.
