16,206. Higginbotham, G. July 14. Turning-gear.-A revolving - cylinder engine is turned from a handle j adjacent to the driver's seat through a two-part shaft d<1>, d<2> the handle being connected to the part d<2> by a universal joint. A clutch d<3>, d<4> normally held open by a spring h connects the two parts of the shaft. A pinion g on the shaft gears with a toothed wheel on the crank case. A interrupter d' is mounted on the part d' and comprises a spring-pressed lever l carrying a contact which is oscillated by a cam on the shaft to make-and-break with a fixed contact m. This interrupter is used with a battery and coil as an auxiliary ignition for starting, two switches being provided to control this auxiliary and the normal magneto ignition.
