Abstract

Plant.-In hydraulic installations consisting of horizontal turbines, each turbine T, Fig. 4, is arranged in a separate chamber K, with its shaft T<1> arranged at right-angles to the direction of flow of the water entering the turbine chamber. When the turbines are used for driving dynamos D, the dynamos are arranged in a common central chamber. Alternative arrangements are shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the reference characters indicating similar parts to those in Fig. 4. A considerable saving in building expenses is effected as compared with the type of installation in which the turbines are arranged in series with their shafts parallel to the direction of flow of the water.
