Abstract

4670. Hainsworth, J. S. Aug. 24. Turbines.-A water-wheel is carried on a floating framework a, supported by tanks and open at the centre to form a flared channel for the current of water as shown at g, Fig. 3. The floor h of this channel is inclined at the centre, and at the crown carries a tilting fender l arranged centrally beneath the wheel j, as shown in Fig. 1. The reversing- forks m for engaging and disengaging the shaft couplings n are operated by the tilting fender ; the couplings transmit the motion of the wheel to either of the dynamo-electric generators p.
