Armatures and field-magnets, cooling. - The air for cooling enclosed machines is divided into two parts, one part cooling the stator iron directly, and the other part cooling first the rotor and then the other part of the stator. Fans v, Fig. 2, force one portion of the air through axial ducts l and radial ducts t in the rotor and thence by way of radial stator ducts z and the external passage u to the exit o; the other portion of the air passes through openings n to peripheral passages k and through the outer parts of the ducts z to the exit o. Plates b are arranged in the stator ducts z to separate the two streams of air.
