Armatures and field-magnets, cooling and ventilating; cores.-In cooling dynamo-electric machines by drawing air through radial and axial passages as described in Specification 9577/08, the axial passages d, Fig. 2, are arranged directly along the winding or between the winding slots. The cooling-air may pass out into the air gap between the stator and rotor, the air being made to pass in an axial direction by closing some of the radial slots at e, Fig. 6, or by means of shut-off members. The members e may be arranged as shown in Fig. 7, in which arrangement the radial slots through which the air enters serve also for its exit.
