Abstract

23,710. Reist, H. G. Oct. 26, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Cooling and ventilating. - A dynamo-electric machine is provided with a fan which forces air through the air-gap between the stator and rotor ; some of the air passes at right-angles through transverse ducts in the stator and out into the atmosphere at the stator periphery, and some passes along the entire length of the gap into a chamber from which it passes, in the opposite direction, through longitudinal channels out into the atmosphere at the other end. Within the casing 1 is arranged an annular laminated stator 2, in which transverse passages are formed by spacing- grids 22, Fig. 2, consisting of ribbed rings having circular walled openings 24 which register with openings stamped in the stator laminae, so that longitudinal openings 16, independent of the transverse openings 14,-are formed in the stator. At one end of the rotor, a fan is secured upon the shaft, between inner and outer plates 10, 11 ; the outer end of the plate 11 is curved inwards as at 12 so that the current of air produced by the fan is directed through the air-gap 13, some of the air passing through the transverse channels to leave the machine at the outer periphery of the stator, and some passing along the entire length of the gap into the closed chamber 15 from which it escapes through the longitudinal channels 16 into a chamber 17 formed in the end-plate 18 and so out into the atmosphere. In the case of a rotor provided with projecting poles, a fan 28, Fig. 4, is provided at the closed end of the machine and adapted to draw air from the open end along longitudinal channels in the stator core, and along a channel 30 between the outside of the laminated core and the casing 29, and so out into the atmosphere at the other end.
