720,521. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 3, 1952 [Sept. 28, 1951], No. 22171/52. Class 35. In an enclosed machine, a composite fan system is used so that the pressure in the rotor system, which includes axial ducts, is higher than that for the stator. As shown in Fig. 4 the rotor has axial ducts formed by using channel section conductors 16 through which hydrogen is passed under pressure by fans at each end of the machine, the gas then passing over coolers disposed between the stator core and casing. The stator has radial ducts communicating with passages at the outer periphery of its core. In Fig. 1, blades 31 act on all the gas at that end but part of it is given increased pressure and passed into the rotor ducts by blades 32. In Fig. 2, blades 31 circulate the stator gas only while blades 33 feed the rotor.
