Abstract

14,840. Bollard, E. June 27. Actuating; lift valves.-Relates to valves or taps of the type operated by the screwing-up of the union nut :c of a hose-pipe fitting z, Fig. 1, or the end z, Figs. 11 and 12, of a tap nozzle or outlet. The lift valve k has winged guides l, f on opposite sides with a stop pin h to limit the rotation of the valve and guides. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a winged guard t, u is fixed in the casing end and is shaped so as to protect and conceal the end face of the winged guide f. The operating end of the hose fitting z is slotted to pass the wings of the guard t, it, the slots each having a rounded corner w<3>, Fig. 8, to engage the curved lugs s on the guide wings f and thereby rotate the same slightly and finally bring them into the stepped part w<2>. The rotation of the guide is resisted by a torsion spring q, as shown. The casing end guard and the torsion spring may be dispensed with. In the form shown in Figs. 11 and 12, the guard and spring are omitted and the operating end of the tap nozzle z is plain. The operation is effected by the engagement of pins x<2> with spiral grooves b' in the valvecasing part.
