Valves controlled from a distance.-In a float valve for lighting and extinguishing incandescent gas-burners, a number of cowls 10 are provided, as shown, which can be arranged to cover either of a series of tubes 4 or 7 connected with a supply-tube 2 on either side of a partition 6, whereby the device can be used for upright or inverted burners by suitably positioning the float. The supply of gas for the pilot light is taken from the passages 5 or 8. If the load of a number of the floats in a system is diminished, the burners supplied thereby may be lighted before the remainder by the arrangement shown in Fig. 5. A three-way cock h is provided for supplying gas to the floats a, b, either through the reducing-valve p, or direct from the main r. A stop-valve l and reducing- valve n are also provided in a branch pipe k for supplying gas at low pressure to the by-pass burners.
