26,065. Riess, H. Nov. 28. Actuating valves and cocks.-In burners for street lamps &c. using coal gas and oxygen or like mixtures, the gas is admitted before, and cut off after, the oxygen supply. Two tap plugs b, c having suitable passages are placed side by side in a casing a. One b of these admits coal gas to a pipe g from a supply pipe d, and the other c, admits oxygen to an inner pipe f from a supply pipe e. The two plugs are operated by levers l, i, the latter, which controls the oxygen, engaging by means of a pin k with a slot m in the lever l which controls the gas. The slot m is so formed that, on turning the lever l, the gas cock partly opens before the oxygen cock moves, and, on extinguishing the light, the oxygen is cut off before the gas, thus diminishing the risk of explosion.
