Abstract
3388. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. March 11, 1912, [Convention date]. Projectile fuses.-Relates to percussion fuses capable of acting without delay when the target is weak, and with delay when the target is strong. According to the invention, (1) the percussion primer carried by the inertia pellet B comprises a front patch b<1> of slowburning composition, and a rear patch b<2> of detonating - composition such as fulminate of mercury; and (2) the firing-pin d<1> is held against a disk a<2> by a short tube E which resists a weak impact, but yields to a strong one. When the impact is weak, the firing-pin d<1> remains in the position shown and penetrates both patches b<1>, b<2>; the detonation of the latter causes the detonation of the first and a flash is transmitted to the detonating-charge F which explodes the projectile. When the impact is strong, the firing-pin d' moves forwards through a short distance and only penetrates the first patch b<1>, and detonation is delayed until this patch has burnt through and ignited the detonating-patch b<2>.
