Abstract

8057. Dahlke, H. April 7. Fuzes for projectiles. - Longitudinal sections, taken in planes at right-angles to each other, are shown of a safety percussion fuze. Normally (1) the detonating-charge o is held by pins y and a rod d separate from its primer l, (2) the pin r is held away from its percussion cap h by the sleeve k, which in turn is secured by the fuze composition ring i and the plate f, and (3) the igniting-hammer a', carrying the percussion cap a<2>, is held away from its pin f<1> by the spring a<3>. When the gun is discharged, the igniting-cap a<2> is carried to the pin f<1> and the fuze composition ring i is ignited. By the time the ring i has been consumed, the projectile has left the gun. The sleeve k is now no longer obstructed, and, when the projectile strikes the target, (1) the charge o shears the pins y, advancing on and enveloping the primer l, and (2) the sleeve k and pin r advance on the percussion cap h, and the pin ignites the primer. In a modification, the invention is applied to a combined time and percussion fuze, and the charge o is then provided with a spring beneath it to carry it over the primer l, as soon as the composition ring i has burnt away.
