Abstract

Feeding openers.-In a hopper for feeding and carding or opening fibrous materials, particularly applicable to the opening of tobacco and the feeding of it to a cigarette-making machine, a series of arms 5<a> mounted on an oscillating shaft 6 are employed to restrain the excess tobacco from being engaged by the feedroll 3 and at the same time to ' fluff ' up the tobacco. Mounted on the same oscillating shaft are a series of rods or tampers 7 for pressing the tobacco taken up by the feed-roll 3 into the teeth of the roll. The tampers are provided with blades 7<b>. A dresser roll 12 having a stripper 15 is provided for removing excess tobacco from the feed-roll, and a stripper 14 is provided to strip the feed-roll 3.
