Abstract

Projectiles. - Relates to projectiles constructed in the form of base chamber shrapnel shells, and filled with illuminating - charges provided with parachutes, and consists in constructional improvements for increasing the duration and strength of the illumination. Two charges G are used, one turned forwards and ignited by a charge d<2> in the fuse, and one turned rearwards and ignited by the base charge B ; and the charges are enclosed in two cylinders M, N split in halves which separate out by centrifugal force during flight. Rotation of the charges relatively to the shell is prevented by pins h<2>. Ignition is communicated to the base charge B by two fuse tubes F, and to the charges G by annular pellets g<1> of compressed powder.
