Abstract

28,381. Vine, E. Dec. 9. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and helical and volute springs.-The outer rim c, Fig. 1, is connected to the inner rim or hub member g by compound helical spring elements each comprising a tension member i, Fig. 4, and a compression member h. The spring may be cylindrical or of volute form. The ends of the member i are held by the rounded heads of bolts, one m of which passes through the member h, and is held by a nut r with a spherical bearing. Each element has end plates j, k, which fit in a readily detachable manner between or under projections on the rims. The side plates s are bolted to the outer rim at v and have notches t fitting over the plates j so as to secure the plates to the rim. Each plate carries a radial slot or guide x engaging a pin w on each side of the wheel. There may be more than one series of springs, and each spring may be enclosed by a case containing lubricant.
