Abstract

19,547. Deam, J., and Holme, E. M. Aug. 27. Motor power plant.-Engines in which water is injected into the combustion chamber have auxiliary water applied immediately after the explosion, and the products with the steam generated are exhausted into a further cylinder turbine or motor. A suitable type of engine for carrying out the invention has outer power cylinders A, B with coincident cranks and a low-pressure cylinder C, which works on a crank at 180 degrees to the other cranks, and has a valve-chest 19 adapted to receive through a pipe 20, the exhausts from the explosion cylinders, alternately or together, according to the working of the cylinders. The auxiliary spray occurs immediately after explosion in the cylinders A, B, but, if desired, more than one spray may be utilized, and, as shown in Fig. 2, the three sprays 4, 5, 6, regulated by a valve 3 are uncovered as the piston travels downwards, the first occurring at the explosion so that the water is disrupted. The valve 3 is worked by a rod 9 from a cam shaft 21, which also operates the exhaust valves 18. The water is supplied from a high-pressure pump 14 through a receiver 26, the cylinder jacket water being used to supply the pump.
